The source for the energy extracted by a Ground Source Heat Pump is usually the ground around the property. The best means of extracting this energy is to circulate fluid through a pipe buried in a borehole. Each 100 metre deep borehole will allow the Heat Pump to produce around 5kW of heat; so, for a 10kW Heat Pump, we would specify 2 x 100 metre boreholes. Borehole pipes are lead back to a collector manifold that sits in a manhole outside the building.
The benefits of using boreholes rather than ground loops is that they require less ground work, will fit into a much smaller footprint and provide a more predictable output. All Greentec's geo-thermal boreholes are drilled by long-time partners Terra Firma Ground Investigation (www.terrafirmagi.co.uk).
